MoA invites you to take part in our 10th anniversary celebration of The Gingerbread City®.
The theme is Future Forward. Over the last 10 years, with 167,000 visitors to date, we have showcased themes addressing current issues such as climate change, sustainability, and innovation in the built environment.
This year we will revisit these themes and explore how we take them forward over the next 10 years and beyond. We want to present your innovative ideas to the public about how the built environment is tackling these issues head-on.

As an architecture charity, our mission is to help people explore how architecture shapes everyday life. We highlight the profession’s importance and benefits by showcasing the innovative and creative minds behind shaping our world into the best possible places. The Gingerbread City® fundraiser allows us to do this work and fund our free programming throughout the year which includes free school visits to GBC, workshops, public space exhibitions and more.
You can choose to respond to the following themes to respond to:
2016: masterplanning for a sustainable and well-connected city
2017: health and wellbeing in cities
2018: inclusive city
2019: transport for the future
2021: re-wilding in cities
2022: building for different climates
2023: water in cities (managing droughts and floods and the idea of underwater cities)
2024: re-purposing and retrofitting buildings
2025: play in cities (for all ages)
2026: Future forward (a mix of the above as well as what the future might bring with building on mars, technology driven cities, etc.)
You will be able to pick up your plot base board (MDF cut to size chosen) at the beginning of November and your finished construction will be handed in on Monday November 23rd.
